Had to read for school, but it was a good read full of sticks in the mud. Makes you think about Jesus and just how he knows us, when others don't.Tags : Faces in the Crowd [Valeria Luiselli, Christina MacSweeney] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <div> An extraordinary new literary talent. -- The Daily Telegraph</i> In part a portrait of the artist as a young woman,Valeria Luiselli, Christina MacSweeney,Faces in the Crowd,Coffee House Press,1566893542,Contemporary Women,Hispanic & Latino,Literary,Identity (Psychology);Fiction.,Mexico City (Mexico);Fiction.,New York (N.Y.);Fiction.,FICTION Alternative History,FICTION Hispanic & Latino,FICTION Literary,FICTION Women,Fiction,Fiction - General,FictionAlternative History,FictionHispanic & Latino,FictionWomen,Mexico City (Mexico),Modern & contemporary fiction (post c 1945),New York (N.Y.),Philadelphia (Pa.)

This was a hard read for me. It was very cringe-worthy in some places. So much so, that I had to put the book down a couple times and it took me over a week to actually get through it.
After reading The Story of My Teeth, I wanted to read more of Luiselli. I am glad I did, This is another great read that brings the many facets of writing, imagination, relationships, and history all together in a collage of insights. I really enjoyed it.
Friends raved about it for many reasons and said it was a must-read. I disliked it and could hardly get through it. Not my type of novel.
The first half is brilliant and spellbinding, but the secon half tapers off into very ordinary story-telling.
I read half and just didn't care about the character enough to keep reading.
Another wonderful trip into the mind of Valeria Luiselli. The way she writes is the difference between art and a painting. A painting is something you can look at with your own eyes, while art is something that shifts your consciousness, even if only for a moment, and allows you to see it through the eyes of the artist. Luiselli really has a gift for presenting just enough of her own perception to form an image of what she's describing, without hindering your ability to personalize what she describes by adding in your own insights to complete the picture.
Lots of great lines and observations, a bit hard to piece together. Sets a melancholy mood which contrasted with my suuny days
